WWF Uganda Country Office (WWF UGO) wishes to recruit suitably and highly qualified and motivated individuals to fill the following vacant positions. (Please note that positions 1,2,3 and 4 are open to Uganda Nationals only)
Position: Biodiversity Conservation Manager
Reports to: Forestry and Biodiversity Coordinator
Location: Kampala/Kasese
Key responsibilities will include the following:
  • To promote and support innovations and adoption of best practices aimed at curbing poaching, illegal wildlife trafficking and trade.
  • To promote tourism and ecotourism and other non-consumptive wildlife based enterprises within protected areas and adjacent communities.
  • To promote and support development and implementation of Protected Area (PA) Management Plans in line with internationally recognized best practices.
  • To promote and support establishment of sustainable financing mechanisms (through public-private partnerships) for efficient management of priority Protected Areas.
  • To promote and support development and implementation of comprehensive Human-Wildlife Conflict Management Plans for priority Protected Areas. To, support development and implementation of flagship Species Management Plans.
Required Qualifications and Experience:
  • Master of Science Degree in Wildlife Management, Natural Resources Management, or a related discipline. At least 7 years of professional experience in biodiversity conservation and management work. Specific work experience in the Albertine Graben would be an added advantage.
  • Previous work experience or engagement with sector agencies (including National Forest Authority, Uganda Wildlife Authority, National Environment Management Authority, the Ministry of Tourism, Wild Life and Antiquities, is an added advantage
  • Experience in working with civil society organizations and the private sector.
