JOB DETAILS:
REPORTING TO: Deputy Chief of Party
PURPOSE OF JOB
To support raising awareness of the program's objectives and work on early grade reading, generate public support and interest for its advocacy agenda and Increase visibility of project work.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Popularize the teaching of early grade reading In local language and English among various publics including leaders, government officials, parents and communities and media.
  • Advise program stall on communication Issues including approaches, consistency of language and content of publications, presentations and press releases.
  • Manage the content and various sections of the SHR protect website and publicity materials.
  • Undertake the generation of messages for public consumption through program success s ones talking points for national and International events, press releases, reports, fact sheets. newsletters, Power Point presentations, and others.
  • Provide‘ the overall communications support for the project and translate the protect goals and version Into useful and powerful messages that will speak to children, parents teachers, educational and other leaders and Ugandans. In general about improve early grade reading In local language and English.
  • Provide oversight for the development and Implementation of spectral campaigns related to the program goals.
  • Provide oversight for the design and Implementation of activities that promote community engagement in early grade reading in school and their communities.
  • Coordinate with MOES and other education partners in planning and implementing community engagement activities that promote and support early grade reading in schools.
  • Develop SHRP communications work plans and budget. This will include the development of a calendar of events that targets strategic groups, organizations and the media.
  • Represent RTI
  • SHRP at district, national and international meetings and forums, to advocate for the use of early grade reading and health data, present results and facilitate exchange between partners.
  • Edit reports, proposals and other articles targeting various public forums for clarity, accuracy of message arid readability, ease of comprehension and consistency with the organizations communication policy.
  • Coordinate the production of periodic success stories, newsletters, reports and posting of websites
  • Advise the program on relevant current news that affect or are of interest to the program,
Minimum Required Education & Experience
Masters degree in Mass Communication, Public Relations, communication science, Education or related field and 3 years‘ work experience in the development sector or Bachelors degree in Mass Communication, international relations , Social Work, Education or related field and 6 years of relevant experience in communication in the development sector.
Skills & Abilities
  • Highly skilled and knowledgeable in community mobilisation, social engagement and facilitation, preferably in the education sector.
  • Excellent written and public speaking skills especially in English at a minimum, A high level of (proficiency in a Ugandan language is an added advantage
  • Highly skilled in video production and editing.
  • Highly proficient in public relations and management‘
  • Good experience in media and events management.
  • Highly knowledgeable with development communication approaches.
  • Experience of conducting communication campaigns and capacity building efforts in Uganda
  • Competency in information systems skills, particularly in publications software;
  • Experience working with NGOS, especially in a USAID-funded or other donor projects pertaining to community engagement an or technical an organization capacity development
  • Computer skills with expertise in PowerPoint, Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Excellent time management and ability to prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Exposure to the donors report requirements.
  • Ability to regularly and flexibly travel between districts and designated protect Units.
