In Uganda, Pathfinder promotes access to quality SRH services, creates linkages in Population, Family Planning and Environment and, in Partnership with Ministry of Health, plays a key role in integrated health systems strengthening through community health workers (CHWs).
We seek highly motivated, talented and hardworking Ugandan nationals for the position of IT Officer.
Reporting to the IT Manager and working closely with Pathfinder Finance and Admin. Manager, the IT Officer closely monitors and oversees all the IT work for Uganda Office. This encompasses operations in Kampala and the satellite offices as well as partner premises.

Position Details
Systems Administration
  • Administer and support complete systems and user infrastructure in close coordination with Pathfinder's IT Manager in Nairobi.
  • Administer servers in Pathfinder offices as well as partner sites.
  • Support LAN and WAN public and private network implementation
  • Ensure timely backup of all necessary systems data
  • Ensure high standards of systems availability across range of physical conditions as budgets allow
  • Effect disaster recovery measures as defined in the disaster recovery plan
  • Recommend for selection and maintain communications systems for Coast operations:
    0 Telephone systems
    0 Online communications
    o BlackBerry Smart phones and other mobile devices
User Systems
  • Support all users, upgrade and maintain software ensuring that all workstations are virus free
  • Provide hardware repair and support as Needed
IT Management and Administration
  • Ensure timely coordination and communication with teams both Kampala and satellite offices requirements, needs and initiatives with the IT Manager.
  • Liaise with the IT Manager on the purchase of IT equipment by providing specifications on IT equipment, software and configurations.
  • Manage service providers and vendors to ensure provision of optimal service levels within the organization.
  • Train staff on use of various technologies in use within Pathfinder in consultation with the IT Manager.
  •  Liaise with the Finance and Administrative Manager — General Services to ensure accuracy and completeness of the IT equipment and accessories on the asset register
Information Systems
  • Support in the development, implementation, training and support of Pathfinder worldwide systems in Uganda including:
    o Intranet and knowledge management systems based on Microsoft SharePoint
    o Financial systems based on Serenic Navigator and Microsoft Navision
    o Data systems
  • Manage the implementation of IT based solutions as value addition to programs work within the Pathfinder and the implementing partners
  • Assist with projects automation, integration and improvements to ensure efficient use of IT resources
  • Provide oversight and support to any outsourced database management
  • Participate in the development, design and implementation of new applications and changes to existing computers systems and software packages
Job Requirements
  • Previous work experience with an international NGO
  • Experience with data systems such as Microsoft Access, MySQL, Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, Mobile App Development.
  • A first degree in computing and/or Information Technology;
  • Minimum two year's hands on experience in Microsoft windows, server installations, configurations and active directory
  • Experience with backup systems such as Computer Associates’ Carbonlte.
  • Advanced computer proficiency with advanced skills in at least two of the following applications or systems:
  • Microsoft SharePoint, SPSS, EPI Info, Microsoft Access and Excel, PHP, Linux.
  • Ability to analyze, troubleshoot, support, and implement technical solutions at all levels especially the desktop
  • Experience with systems documentation
  • Able and willing to travel extensively and sometimes to remote places
  • Ability to work well with people from diverse cultures and communicate effectively
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to Manage the entire spectrum of information technology operations specially LAN/WANNSAT/Wireless technologies, Cisco Switches & Routers, Juniper Netscreen Firewall, VPN, DNS, DHCP, HP Proliant Servers, HP Procurve Switches etc.
