Jobs at:
Saferworld
Deadline of this Job:
18 January 2018
Duty Station:

JOB DETAILS:
Saferworld is an independent international organisation that works to prevent and reduce violent conflict and promote co-operative approaches to security. Established in 1989, we work with civil society, international organisations and governments to encourage and support effective policies and practices through advocacy, research and policy development and through supporting the actions of others. Our ultimate focus is to reduce the impact of conflict and insecurity on the poorest and most vulnerable in society.
Our programmes are strongly rooted in community action research and action planning with communities and groups affected by conflict. Saferworld has pioneered the community security methodology in Kosovo, Bangladesh, Nepal, Kenya and South Sudan, working in partnership with local organisations to accompany communities in researching their safety and security needs and through an action-planning process that is people-focused, bringing together communities, police, local authorities and other security and justice providers to prioritize and address them. As a result of the growth of our programmes in terms of scale and intensity, we are seeking a Participatory Action Research (PAR) Advisor to work with select programme teams in adapting our methodology/tools to their contexts. The post holder will work in collaboration with the Organisational Development and Programme Support Units, and accompanying programme and partner staff in the use of tools, analysis and adaptation of programming.
The successful candidate will have experience of using PAR methodologies in community programming and of supporting and accompanying staff and partners in developing and using PAR tools. High level communication skills, as well as training and facilitation skills are essential. A key requirement will be an understanding of the challenges faced in project implementation in conflict affected environments.
