Job details:
Justice Centres Uganda(JCU) is a Project of the Justice Law and Order Sector (JLOS) hosted and supervised by the Judiciary to provide legal aid. JCU operates through Centres that provide a wide range of services that include Legal Representation, Alternative Dispute Resolution,Legal Advice, support with Self representation, Psycho-Social Support and Legal Awareness and Sensitization, as well as Advocacy for reform of Laws and negative practices. Justice Centres Uganda operates offices in Kampala, Tororo, Lira, FortPortal, Masaka, Hoima,
Kasese, Rukungiri, Mbale, Mubende and Mukono; and seeks to recruit competent dynamic and creative individuals to join her team of passionate Access to Justice Advocacy Professionals in the following position:
Post: LEGAL VOLUNTEERS (13 Placements)
(Masaka, Fortportal, Lira, Mukono, Mubende, Rukungiri, Mbale, Kasese)
Reports to the Legal Assistant
Responsibilities:
1. Receiving walk-in and toll free clients
2. Follow up on files allocated
3. Mediate and conclude at least one case a week
4. Drafting Legal Opinions and Documents for each case assigned
5. Regularly update all cases assigned and report to supervisor on a weekly basis.
6. Attend weekly meetings held at the Justice Centres
7. Write success stories on each of the concluded cases assigned.
Required qualifications and Competencies:
Candidates with the necessary qualifications, competences, skills and experience should submit an application letter, a current CV and copies of their academic/professional certificates and a photocopy a valid Practicing Certificate.

Required qualifications and Competencies:
- Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Laws from an accredited Institution.
- Post Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice – LDC and looking forward to enrolment
- Previous experience from Internship training/Clerkship with a Law Firm or legal aid service provider is an added advantage.
- Proficiency in both Oral and Written English is essential.
- Knowledge of legal aid service provision in Uganda
- Good writing skills
- Good communication and presentation skills.
- Dedication to working for and with the poor
- Ability to mobilize communities for Outreach Sessions.
- Proven team building skills.
