Wageningen UR Uganda is implementing a 4-year ISSD Plus project to be funded by the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Kampala The programme aims to strengthen the development of a vibrant, pluralistic and market-oriented seed sector that is able to address key challenges. ISSD Plus project has 4 components: al promotion of uptake of quality seed b) enhancing the Quality Declared Seed system and support Local Seed Businesses; 4:) addressing bottlenecks in early generation seed; and d) promotion of advanced vegetable variety/seed use. The project is implemented in collaboration with the National Agricultural Research Organisation (NARO) for public varieties of food crops and private sector for vegetable seed. Field offices are located at selected Zonal Agricultural Research and Development Institute (ZARDI),
Wageningen UR Uganda seeks to recruit enthusiastic and highly motivated persons for the following position all based in Kampala:
Post: Early Generation Seed (EGS) and Policy Coordinator
Reports to: Chief of Party
Job summary:
Support innovative and new ways to address bottlenecks in the EGS system and seed sector policy environment. The coordinator will work in close collaboration with NARO holding Ltd, NARO Secretariat, breeders, and MAAIF on improving the EGS system: Focus is on coordination of foundation seed production tor legumes and other selected crops: pilot a pre» booking system; piloting a tractability system, and piloting decentralized foundation seed production as a business (provide business support). In addition, S/he will support and strengthen seed sector stakeholders’ governance and facilitate public private sector collaboration to enhance seed quality assurance systems arid operationalization of the QDS system.
Minimum Knowledge. Skills and Qualifications:
A Master’s Degree in Crop Sciences preferable with an orientation towards seed science; At least 5 years‘ work experience in the seed sector in Uganda. 3 years‘ experience working with or in collaboration with NARO on early generation seed provision.
