JOB DETAILS:
Established in 1989, the MRC/UVRI & LSHTM Uganda Research Unit is an internationally recognized interdisciplinary centre of excellence for research on HIV infection and priority diseases. It provides critical knowledge on the evolving HIV epidemic and on the evaluation of innovative health care options, treatment and prevention, and has shaped health policy and practice not only in Uganda but also in Africa and worldwide.
The Unit has an international track record of research on HIV. It has led and contributed to major international multi centre trials evaluating novel prevention and treatment options and conducts social behavioural and basic science studies. The Unit apart from funding from the MRC-UK is attracting support from a variety of other international funders including EDCTP, Wellcome Trust, DFID and IAVI. The Unit is now seeking enthusiastic and experienced individuals to frll the following position:
Role Position: HIV Theme Leader & Head of Programme, HIV Intervention
Location: MRC/UVRI & LSHTM Uganda Research Unit, Entebbe, Uganda.
Salary: Attractive international Salary and benefits.
Duration: Full time and fixed term for 5 years.

Reporting to: Unit Director
Some Key Responsibilities for Both Positions:
You will be expected to provide leadership to the theme as well as leading your own distinctive programme of interventional research, complementing the basic, epidemiological and social science strengths of the Unit. You will be expected to work collaboratively with other theme and programme leaders to develop and sustain a creative synergy to tackle health priorities of the region. You will contribute substantially to the Unit's five-year plan, which commenced in April 2017, and will be expected to support scientists conducting research in a broad range of other areas compatible with the mission of the Unit.

Required Qualification, Experience and Competencies: You will need;
- To be medically qualified with an MBChB/MBBS/MD and PhD or equivalent; Clinical specialty i.e. MMED or MRCP will be an added advantage
- An excellent track record oi research publications in internationally respected journals and oi influencing health practice and policy
- To have research experience within the HIV field
- Excellent leadership skills with a history of attracting significant research funding and evidence of providing staff development, creativity and autonomy
