Job Title: Deputy Technical Manager Breeding

Reporting To: Technical Manager Breeding

Overall Job Purpose
To manage the reproduction and breeding of animals using the most appropriate and acceptable breeding technologies and techniques.
Age Limit: 35-55 Years
Specific Responsibilities
Plans, budgets, designs and oversees implementation of breeding and reproduction programs and projects, Coordinates the development of comprehensive breeding programs at center farms, Participates in the update and maintenance of the National Gene Bank/Depository, Guides sustainable animal genetic resources development and conservation activities tor indigenous animals, Coordinates the development of guidelines and implementation off field oriented breeding extension services for field workers, Breeder Societies/Associations and indigenous farmers, Evaluates all imported germplasm and live animals, Promotes Open Nucleus Breeding programmes with the farmers in collaboration with breeding activities oi Genetic Resources Centre farms, Monitors and evaluates the performance of breeding activities, Develops research proposals and takes part in characterization of breeds, production environments and other related researchable areas, Oversees the production or procurement oi semen, ova, embryo and associated animal breeding technologies, Establishes a foundation stock of superior dams and sires, Manages the rearing of Sire Studs for production of semen, Coordinates the promotion of herd—recording programmes on Centre farms, Initiates and designs project and programs for the formulation of management and production information to be packaged and used in the training programs of NAGRC & DB at different levels, Liaises with other genetic resource breeding and research centres to benchmark and improve on breeding technologies and services of the Centre, Supervises mentors and appraises staff in the Department and Any other activities as assigned by the Executive Director

Basic Requirements
  • A Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Sciences, Veterinary Sciences or their equivalent from a recognised degree awarding institution.
  • A Masters degree in Animal Sciences, Veterinary Sciences or their equivalent from a recognised degree awarding institution is a pre-requisite.
  • Specialised post-graduate training in animal breeding from a recognised institution is desirable.
  • PhD Training is an added advantage
  • Working experience of at least ten (10) years in animal industry is a prerequisite with atleast three years experience at senior level in Government or a recognized institution.
  • Very good track records at work and partnership with stakeholders
Startng Date: Immediately
Duration of Commitment: 3 Years Contract
Salary Expectation: Attractive

Overall Job Purpose
To Ensure that NAGRCBDB has a stable information Communication Technology (ICT) Infrastructure that meets their current and future ICT requirements in a timely and professional manner.

Specific Responsibilities
Inspects ICTtools procured/equipment and verify if they meet the requirement and standards, Establishes long term needs for the information system to promote the increased proliferation and ambitious application of iCl’ within the Institution, and advises management on the appropriate strategies, Provides technical support and guidance on all matters of procurement, utilization and maintenance of lCi' hardware and software to the Institution, Establishes and advises the institution on technical installation, priorities, standards, procedures, management and telecom equipment and systems, Maintains confidentiality, security and reliability oi the information systems, Maintains all Institution computer hard ware and software in accordance with the established National Standards, Reviews, designs. implements and maintains sound Local Area Network and Wide Area Network systems for the institution, Offers Capacity building and ICT support to institutional staff, Participates in deployment of new or upgrade information Technology and infrastructure, installs and performs minor repairs on hardware, software, and peripheral equipment and provides on~going support of client technology, Configures and installs desktop ~PCs, peripheral equipment, laptops and other mobile devices, Diagnosesand resolves client workstation and mobile device hardware and software issues, Manages inventory of Computer Asset equipment to ensure the timely entry in the inventory, Ensures data protection and backup of user data on institutional sewers, Manages and regularly updatesthe institutional website and the organizational email systems and Undertakes any other official duties as may be assigned by the Supervisor.
Basic Requirements .
  • A minimum of a Diploma in Computer Science. information Technology, Information systems, Computer engineering or any related field from a recognized institution of higher learning.
  • Good working knowledge of telecommunications technologies (wireless networks) and Network Architectures for both Local Area Networks and Wide Area Networks
  • Excellent working knowledge of internet technologies, including: TCP/IP suite of protocols; Internet security; Internet routing; Voice over Internet Protocol)
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Windows Operating Systems configuration and with some knowledge in windows server 2008 administration
  • Have good working knowledge in computer networking, computer systems hardware, software repair and maintenance with compliance to new computer technologies
  • Should have knowledge in web management, content management systems with working knowledge in HTML and any of (joomla, drupal, wordpress).
  • Should have basic knowledge in database Management with oracle/sql/mysqi.
  • Excellent communication and inter-personal skills. Must be able to working multi-cultural environment
  • Working knowledge of animal science and breeding as an advantage.
  • Should possess an experience of at least (2) years of operating in an IT environment.

Fastens attachments such as graders, plows, rollers, mowers, backhoes, seeders, and disc harrows to tractor to accomplish job assignments, Adjusts equipment for proper operation, Lubricates and makes minor repairs to tractor and attachments such as tightening bolts, and replacing washers, cotter pins, and screws, Responsible for conforming to all safe work practices and procedures, Keeps and ensures the safety of all the tractor documents, spare tyre and tool box and Performs other related duties as required.

  • Should have “O” level certificate of education.
  • Should have a valid driving permit class “H'.
  • Should have passed the Tractor Operators Test.

Specific Responsibilities
Collects and tests semen and other samples to establish its genotype, quality and viability for reproductive and breeding initiatives, Collects natural and exotic genetic animal resources for storage or conservation as found appropriate, Implements Al measures and assists in the execution of other animal natural or assisted breeding techniques or technologies, Records data on animal management and associated reproductive and breeding activity, Observes animal hygiene, health, diet (including special diets, pregnancy diagnosis as may be necessary) and behaviour to establish appropriate care, reproductive, breeding and treatment regimes, Supervises the cleaning and sterilization of the animal testing environment for reproduction and breeding where deployed, and Undertakes any other official duties as assigned by the Supervisor

National Animal Genetics Resources Centre and Data Bank, a body corporate under the Ministry of Agriculture Animal industry and Fisheries its mandate is to take a leading role in establishing a comprehensive National Animal Breeding Programme in Uganda, wishes to recruit the following;

Reporting To: Technicai Manager Production
Overall Job Purpose .
To oversee animal nutritional issues on all Centre Farms
Age Limit: 25-55 Years
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
Establish nutritional needs of the different animals at 4 their various physiological stages, Test feeds/feed samples and feeding methods to learn /ascertain i and formulate what nourishes all animals and fish on i the ‘farm efficiently and economically to maximise growth, reproduction and health, Writes reports on breeding/feeding habits of all animals and fish on the farm, Minimises waste for environmental consideration through promoting adaptation of climate smart technologies, Undertake forage seed validation and multiplication at each production unit, Developed, designs and implement projects and programs i for production through improved nutrition, Coordinates forage establishment, improvement and maintenance, l Coordinating water harvesting, utilization and i distribution, Coordinating and undertake training and demonstration in feeds and feeding technologies for l Managers, Veterinarians and other workers, Ensuring Proficient resource utilization and management, and r Nutritional evaluation and careful use of local forages and non conventional feeds
Basic Requirements
  • A degree in Agricultural Science or Veterinary Science.
  • Postgraduate degree in Animal Nutrition is an added advantage. r
  • Working experience of at least three (03) years in a r related field.
