Job Summary: The Area Coordinator will be responsible for the overall leadership, direction, and oversight of programs & personnel in the operational area. S/he will ensure that all program designs and outputs align with Samaritan’s Purse’s strategy, donor standards, and local regulations. The incumbent will provide broad oversight to operations, finance, supply chain, security, human resources, ministry, staff care, programs and community relations in support of ongoing projects in the operational area. This position requires commitment to, understanding of and compliance with Samaritan’s Purse mission and statement of faith as well as all other SP polices. Besides, the job holder is expected to attend and /or lead devotions and be an example to others through her/his faith and walk with God.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provide overall leadership for all SP personnel in the area and its sub office (s), if any.
  • Assist the program managers in addressing programmatic challenges.
  • Coordinate all programs & operation teams in the geographic area of assignment.
  • Work closely with all concerned to ensure strategic planning and program quality.
  • Cooperate with and assist the Proposal Development and Monitoring department to ensure programming quality throughout the project cycle (example: needs assessment, M&E, surveys, field supervision)
  •  Coordinate and optimize operational support by empowering staff responsible for M&E.
  • In charge of periodical internal and external reporting for all projects
  • Assist and provide inputs into new project design and monitoring and evaluation exercises.
  •  Keep the supervisor and other senior management members informed of any changes in humanitarian needs in the area.
  • Ensure all SP policies (FOGs, labor code) and procedures are adhered to at all times.
  • Guide efforts to optimize efficiencies and prevent fraud and risks to operation in the area.
  • Thoroughly review all expenditures or transactions in the area to ensure accuracy of records.
  • Responsible for the safety and security of staff and beneficiaries in the area of assignment.
  • Represent SP to community leaders, government bodies, local churches, UN and other NGOs and cultivate productive relationships through intentional networking efforts.
  •  Develop and ensure a healthy and effective work environment where all staff can grow spiritually & professionally and are empowered to perform to the best of their ability.
  • Guide and coordinate Human Resources in coordination with HR department in Kampala.
  •  Lead all recruitment processes and ensure they comply with all SP policies and labor code.
  • Carry out performance appraisals for direct reports as well as oversee others do the same.
  •  Responsible for ensuring that there is a daily morning devotions for all staff.
  • Discern and report critical physical emotional or spiritual concerns of supervised staff.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
  • The applicant for the Samaritan’s Purse Area Coordinator job placement should hold a Bachelor’s Degree in either Project Planning and Management, Business Administration, Economics and Management, Organization and Development Management, Public Administration and Management or any other related management fields.
  • Possession of a Master’s Degree in Business Administration or Management is strongly desired. A minimum of five years of work experience in team leadership including managing multiple programs and large budgets and team portfolios.
  • Good planning, coordination, prioritization, time management and analytical skills with ability to make independent judgment and decisions.
  • Excellent negotiation, communication, and relationship management skills. A
  • Highly proactive, resourceful, solutions and results-oriented, self-starter and flexible with strong organizational and cross cultural communication skills.
  • S/he should be dynamic and a team player
  • Fluent in English and local language spoken in the area of operation.
