Job Summary: The Child Protection Coordinator – Programming will provide effective technical support and guidance to programme staff and partners during design, planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation to achieve Child Protection priorities in line with World Vision Uganda’s strategic direction; design strategies to improve prevention and response mechanisms to priority child protection issues in programmes; and enhance the promotion of child and youth participation to create an enabling environment that enhances the peace and protection of children for child well-being. Aspects such as research, documentation, children in Emergencies and advocacy, are to be emphasized.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Policy Advocacy; Support child protection advocacy through social and policy research, analyses & engagements in dialogues and advocacy campaigns to establish linkages and coherence between Area Programs and National levels, in the context WVU NO and EARO strategies.
  • Research, Documentation and Information sharing; Provide technical guidance to the ADPs in undertaking situation analyses and needs assessments, identifying areas for research, conducting research and ensuring documentation of impact stories and promising practices for sharing at ADP and national levels.
    Child Protection programming;
  • Promote the quality of Child Protection programming through provision of technical guidance and direction for effective programme assessments, baselines, designs, planning, implementation, monitoring, evaluation, programme reviews and annual review meetings of child protection plans.
  • Promote the roll out of the Child Protection and Advocacy (CPA) Model and support ADPs identify issues to inform programming. Participate in and support clusters to programme for and implement children in emergencies programmes; integration and mainstreaming child and youth participation
  • Capacity building; render technical guidance in capacity needs assessment for child protection to inform the formulation and implementation of a capacity building program and provide on-going mentoring and support for staff and partners.
    Networking and Partnership; identify potential partnerships and networks, coordinate relationships building to implement and profile child protection programmes and make recommendations in-line with WVU strategic priorities. Some of networks and partners include Government, Child Focused Agencies and UN agencies.
  • Communication, Information and Education; Provide technical support in the development of Information, Education, and Communication (I.E.C) materials on child protection based on strategic issues and objectives of World Vision in collaboration with Communication and other sectors.
    Monitoring and Reporting:
  •  Develop monitoring and reporting mechanisms at all levels and prepare quality and timely monthly, bi and annual Child Protection sector status reports and collection of data for advocacy, evidence based programming, information sharing to promote learning and guide decision making etc.
  • Participate in resource mobilization by initiating the development of and contributing to writing quality and fundable concepts and proposals for child protection programming .
  • Provide support in the establishment and strengthening of protection and peace structures at all levels to enhance response, reporting and referral of child protection issues using the Child Protection and Advocacy (CPA) model
  • Undertake frequent field visits for research and analysis, provision of technical support to programmes, review compliance to child protection standards, monitor implementation of child protection activities, identify opportunities and constraints and make recommendations for adjustments needed including in the roll out of child protection initiatives and models/approaches
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
  • The ideal candidate for the World Vision Child Protection Coordinator – Programming job opportunity should hold a University degree in Law, Social Sciences, and Social Worker or a related field of study.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proven advocacy and documentation experience
  •  Significant experience in policy analysis training
  • Computer literacy skills
  •  Must be able to travel extensively throughout Uganda
  • Ability to communicate fluently in writing and orally
