Salary Range (Net): UGX 2,480,000 – 3,000,000 per month (depending on the experience and skill of a candidate)
Association for Aid and Relief (AAR Japan) was founded in 1979 by Yukika SOHMA, our first chairperson, with a mission to help refugees from Indochina, and as a civil organization without any political, religious, or ideological affiliations. It has since then grown into an international organization approved and registered by the United Nations. AAR Japan has five main pillars of activities; 1) emergency assistance, 2) assistance to persons with disabilities, 3) landmine and unexploded ordnance (UXO) action, 4) action against infectious diseases and 5) public awareness raising about global issues in Japan. Since the beginning, AAR Japan has operated in over 60 countries. Currently we are active in 15 countries and areas, including 4 African countries namely Kenya, Zambia, Sudan and Uganda.
Job Summary: The Education Specialist will provide technical oversight and quality assurance for the project, assist Programme Coordinators/Project Officer to develop a collaborative strategy, and build the capacity of staff through training.

Job Summary: The Education Specialist will provide technical oversight and quality assurance for the project, assist Programme Coordinators/Project Officer to develop a collaborative strategy, and build the capacity of staff through training.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: The Education Specialist Advisor shall,
- Provide guidance to Programme Coordinator/Project Officer to make the projects harmonized with educational standards and guidelines of both United Nations, Republic of Uganda, and other international standard including INEE and Sphere Standard;
- Coordinate with schools, partner organizations and local authorities;
- Create draft reports for UN Agency, government authorities of Uganda, and other relevant stakeholders;
- Perform other relevant duty as instructed by Programme Coordinator/Project Officer
- The applicant should preferably hold a Bachelor’s degree or higher in relevant field
- At least ten years of experience relevant to the scope of work
- Hold a qualification of teacher and have more than 2 years of teaching experience in primary or secondary school. An experience of Head Teacher would be an asset.
- Extensive experiences of working in or with the Ministry of Education and Sports / District Education Office, and other relevant stakeholders including SMCs, PTAs, and VEC
- Familiarity and up-to-date with educational policies and guidelines of Republic of Uganda.
- Experience in facilitation of workshops and/or seminars
- Experience in working with aid organizations, in emergency situation and/or in multi-cultural context, and familiarity of international standards of education such as INEE (Inter-Agency Network for Education in Emergencies) Minimum Standard
- Ugandan citizen, residing in Uganda and able to station in Yumbe
- Strong motivation to be part of an aid organization
- Excellent at working as a part of the team, especially as a role of advisor
- Solid drafting/reporting skills, both in writing and verbal communication
- Fluency in speaking and writing English
- PC literacy including word processing (MS Word) and spreadsheets (MS Excel)
- Culturally sensitive and high level of diplomacy and tact
- Punctuality
