Job Description Olam Uganda Limited is one of the leading exporter of Coffee, Cocoa, Simsim and Cotton from Uganda. We aim to scale up Olam’s coffee farm gate procurement supply chain in Uganda from the current 8,000 to 25,000 households, improving our revenue and farmers' incomes by providing a premium, traceable product to our customers. This scale-up project will improve yields and incomes by providing smallholders with access to input financing, training in good agricultural practices (GAP), mobile communications and payments, and producer organisational (PO) development. We follow the Uganda Coffee Development Authority’s recommendations of best practices with an emphasis on extension services and farmer organisations. This scale-up project will enable us to secure our supply of high-quality Ugandan coffee by building trusting, long-term relationships with farmers and leveraging mobile technology to optimise our operations. Our Farmer Support Teams work with coffee farming households to improve coffee production and livelihoods. We are expanding our gender programme and are looking for the below posts to support our existing team
Main duties and responsibilities
  • Build and lead a new Farmer Support Team in Mt. Elgon region, greater Bushenyi & Kasese.
  • Achieve set targets in terms of farmer numbers and coffee purchases;
  • Coordinate certification activities and ensure compliance of the scheme to international standards (UTZ/RFA);
  • Plan and coordinate implementation of all services provided to scheme members; v. Coordinate collection of M&E data & initial analysis;
  • Timely identification of challenges, solutions and Budget management.
  • Technical reporting to Manager Projects.
Required qualifications, experiences and competencies
  • BSc in Agriculture or crop science;
  • At least 3 years’ work experience in the coffee value chain or another cash crop;
  • Proven management skills;
  • Experience with the implementation of international certification standards;
  • Proven ability to work independently
  • Good computer skills, including Excel;
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build positive working relationships with a range of stakeholders;
  • Ability to ride a motorbike;
  • Willingness to live and work up-country and
  • Knowledge of local language is an added advantage
