The German Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development has commissioned the Gesellschaft fur lntemationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) with the Programme ‘Strengthening Govemance and Civil Society in Uganda‘, co-funded by the European Union, The main objective of the programme is that selected state and civil society actors in Uganda are in better position to work towards the compliance with human rights and governance principles (transparency, accountability, efficient and effective management and political participation) in their respective areas of responsibility. Structurally, the programme focuses on 3 main areas: 1) Strengthening External Audit 2) Strengthening Human Rights and 3) Strengthening Civil Society.

Responsibilities
The Public Relations and Communications Officer is responsible for:
Facilitate and organize the communication and visibility efforts of the project

GIZ is seeking a Public Relations and Communications Officer for this programme,
Responsibilities
The Public Relations and Communications Officer is responsible for:
- Development of a communication and visibility plan and strategy in line with EU requirements
- implementation of the visibility plan of the project
- Mainstream communication and visibility within the overall GIZ Programme and partners
- Ensuring regular reporting on project progress, innovations and Results
Facilitate and organize the communication and visibility efforts of the project
- Develop a communication and visibility plan and strategy in line with the EU requirements
- Develop informative factsheets and other communication material
- Develop promotional materials
- Compilation of regular newsletter
- Set up a photo database to store photo information and evidence on the implementation
- Regularly feeding social media channels
- Organize press infom1aticn tours
- Organize joint excursions to project sites
- Documentation of success stories
- Short film or documentary on the programme
- Organize visibility events, press conferences and press briefings
- Ensure the correct use of logos and disclaimers by the EU co- funded component and all advisers and stakeholders
- Ensure the ex-post publication of information on Contractors and Grant Beneficiaries of the EU funded
- Strengthen communication for and about civil society engagements in the policy formulation at national and local levels.
- Contribute to dialogue and exchange between different stakeholders (state actors, NGOs, civil society) on relevant topics.
Qualifications:
- University degree in public relations, communication, journalism or similar field.
- Minimum 5 years professional experience in the preparation and implementation of communication and awareness raising strategies;
- Experience in the communication of EU funded programmes;
- Very good knowledge of English, knowledge in German is an added value.
- Good working knowledge of ICT and related software (Photoshop, GIS, design software, etc. ) and computer applications (eg. MS Office);
- Experience on gender mainstreaming desired;
- Experience in communication of impacts;
- Active, flexible and dynamic team player and excellent networker;
- Very Good writing and communication skills;
- Experience in workshop organisation, events management and diplomatic protocol.
