PEAS‘ mission is to ‘expand access to sustainably delivered, quality secondary education across Africa’. We currently operate a network of 30 schools across Uganda and Zambia educating over 15,000 marginalized students, and we are one of the fastest growing, not-for-profit school networks in Africa. PEAS schools deliver a better-quality education to more disadvantaged students at a lower cost than equivalent public and private schools.
Now that PEAS has a well-established network of schools, PEAS is looking to position itself as a sector lead and to have an impact beyond its own school network. This may be through identifying opportunities to support other school operators and/or through contributing to wider education policy discussion.
PEAS IS looking for a Strategic Partnership Manager to work closely with the PEAS-Ugandan Country Director and PEAS‘ global Technical Team to design and deliver this exciting new area of work in Uganda.
JOB TITLE: Strategic Partnerships Manager (SPM)
ROLE SUMMARY:
The SPM will be responsible for establishing and maintaining key strategic partnerships in Uganda, including with MoES and work closely with the CD to strengthen PEAS’ existing partnership with the Government of Uganda. S/he will establish PEAS as a thought leader within the Ugandan education sector and ensure that PEAS is having an impact at a wider system level beyond its own network of schools. The SPM will also Lead on in-country new business development and contribute to global business development initiatives. REPORTING TO: Country Director PEAS Uganda
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Government relations (40%): The SPM supports the Country Director with Government relations and partnership development.
- Business Development (30%): The SPM leads Uganda based business development initiatives and supports the PEAS UK team to steward relationships with key funding partners.
- Sector engagement and thought leadership (20%): The SPM will build PEAS’ profile as a thought leader in the Ugandan education sector
- System change and global advocacy (10%): The SPM is the Ugandan lead contributing to PEAS‘ global efforts to have an impact beyond its network of schools.
Essential skills, knowledge & experience:
- A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing to a range of different audiences
- Ability to produce high quality written documents and presentations, sometimes at short notice
- Proven ability to establish and maintain constructive relationships with stakeholde
- Proven ability to influence others and build consensus
- Experience with managing Government and grant funded projects (including institutional and corporate donors)
- Experience working with staff in multiple locations and maintaining effective communications
- Passion for securing the best education outcomes for children
- Ability to work under own initiative or in a team to complete complex projects
- Ability to work efficiently under pressure to meet tight deadlines
- Quick learner and adept at working flexibly to support evolving team and organizational needs.
- Experience working with the Ministry of Education and Sports in Uganda
- Experience working in an organisation focused on education and/or international development
- Experience designing or delivering grant-funded projects (DFID, USAID)
- Knowledge of current development agenda and issues impacting education in Africa ,
- Experience in conducting advocacy work at national level
