Established in 1988, the MRC/UVRI Uganda Research Unit on AIDS is an internationally recognized Center of excellence for research on HIV infection and related diseases, contributing knowledge on the evolving epidemic, the evaluation of innovative health care options, treatment and prevention, and the development of health policy and practice in Africa and worldwide. The Unit’s head offices are located at the Uganda Virus Research Institute - Entebbe Campus, and the main research activities in Masaka, Kalungu, Kampala and Wakiso districts, including the peri-urban areas of Entebbe.

Medical Officer

Reporting to the Senior Medical Officer. The medical Officer will be responsible for recruitment, clinical evaluation and care of research participants
Some Key Responsibilities
- Obtains informed consent, screens for study eligibility, enrolls and follows’ up study participants.
- Provides clinical care to study participants and conducts referrals as appropriate.
- Collects data as required by the protocol, completes source documents and CRFs and submits them for data entry, and resolves queries.
- Prescribes and where appropriate administers IP. Check out the website for details
- Bachelor's degree in medicine and surgery
- Other relevant training e.g. short courses in epidemiology and biostatistics, management of specific conditions e.g. HIV, STIs, TB etc. are of added advantage
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in clinical practice preferably in Clinical research setting
- Knowledge of preventive health-care interventions including for HIV/AIDS, Understanding Phases of clinical trials and ability to diagnose and treat common acute and chronic illnesses
