AIRD Uganda is a non-governmental, non-political, non-religious and non-profit making international NGO. AIRD is currently working in 9 African countries in East, Central and West Africa.
AIRD’s objectives is to offer operational support, including but not limited to; supply chain, logistics, construction, infrastructure, environment, livelihoods and WAH in partnership with relief and development organisations which focus on disaster-affected and development oriented areas.
AIRD is seeking for qualified personnel (internal and external) to fill the position to be implemented in 2018:
Job Title : Back up Operator
Location: Field settlements
Report to: Mechanical engineer/civil engineer
Responsible For: Operating Project heavy machines including buldozers, wheel loader, compactor and grader
Job Summary: Operating tractor and various types of equipment to maintain gravel roads.

Job Qualifications:
- Uganda Certificate of Education
- Road equipment operator training certificate is an added advantage.
- Valid Driving license class H.
Minimum of 3 to 5 years’ Experience with road construction industry. - 2 to 3 years progressive experience operating heavy machines.
- Knowledge of roller operation and heavy equipment.
- Knowledge of road construction materials, processes and requirements.
- understanding of grades and interpret roadway plans and drawings.
- Interpersonal skills
- Time management
- Heavy Equipment Operation skills
- Communication skills, Confidence
- Ability to work in any part of the country.
- Have a sense of urgency to meet deadlines.
- Teamwork
- Physically able to repetitively lift and carry at least 25kgs on a regular basis.
- Excellent sense of balance ~ Ability to work for long hours.
- Ability to work in an outdoor setting including inclement weather, heat, humidity and exposure to dust and asphalt.
- Must comply with the company’s drug and alcohol testing requirements.
