Job details:
The AIDS Support Organisation ( TASO ) is an organisation contributing to a process of preventing HIV infection, restoring hope and improving the quality of lite of persons, families and communities affected by HIV infection and disease. TASO as a sub—recipient is in Consortium with University Research C0., LLC (URC) as prime to implement the USAID Defeat TB Protect. TASO shall be an exclusive sub grantee partner to the URC consortium to establish/strengthen community systems for TB, TB/HIV & Drug-Resistant-TB control, strengthen involvement of and coordination with the private sector for TB diagnosis and treatment, optimize and strengthen facility-community linkages, strengthen adherence and treatment completion, contribute to psychosocial support for TB patients, contribute to community-based M&E, and strengthen Socio-Behaviour Change to reduce stigma and increase demand for TB services in Uganda. In pursuit of such intentions, TASO wishes to recruit a highly skilled, competent and self-motivated individual to till the following vacant position in the USAID DEFEAT TB Project;

Classification: Contract, full time
Reports to: Community TB Technical Advisor
Salary: Commensurate with training and experience
Direct Supervisor: Community Tb Champions

Main Purpose of the Job: The main purpose of this position will be to facilitate the Social Behavioural Change Communication (SBCC) activities at community level as well as the mass media activities. She/he will work hand in hand with Communications for Healthy Communities (CHC) activity to design relevant messages to targeted communities as well as Drug-Sensitive and Drug-Resistant TB patients. He will ensure availability of IEC materials and coordinate the capacity building of DOT providers and other volunteers engaged in community sensitization.
PERSON SPECIFICATIONS: Socio-Behavioural Change Communication (SBCC) Technical Officer
Minimum Academic Qualification:
Bachelor's degree in any of the following fields; Mass Communication, Commerce (Marketing), Business Administration, Public Health, Behavioural Science, Health Promotion or a related field. Possession of Post Graduate training in health communication will be an added advantage.
Additional Training
  • Certificate in HIV/AIDS Counselling
  •  Certificate in Counselling tor ART
Required Experience and Skills
  • At least 5 years’ experience in providing technical assistance and mentorship of HGWs in TB/HIV prevention and community linkages within MoH structures and systems in USAID projects.
  • Comprehensive knowledge and experience in community mobilization for TB and HIV/AIDS prevention and management.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to work effectively in a team.
  • Excellent writing and oral presentation skills
  • Knowledge of USG programming policies and regulations, MoH and district procedures and practices.
  • Specialized knowledge and experience in Community Health and stakeholder engagement skills and attributes.
  • Demonstrated experience designing, implementing and evaluating Social Behaviour change communication interventions tor TB and HIV/AIDS
Other Qualities/Attributes: integrity, Emotional control, Confidentiality and Openness, Team player, Ability to work under mental and physical stress and Empathy.
