The Board invites suitably qualified Ugandans to till the positions below:
Job Title: Senior Legal Officer (1)
Responsible to: Director HR & Administration.
Scale: EB 4
Purpose of the Job:
To provide legal services to the Board to enable it meet its legal obligations and to protect its interests during the execution of its mandate.
Key Result Areas (KRAs)
- Give legal guidance in line with the Laws of Uganda and other relevant Laws during the formulation of appropriate policies and procedures and other forms of decision making, for efficient operations of the Board.
- Prepare, review, amend and interpret legal documents drafted by or sent to the Board in conformity with conventional legal standards.
- Represent the Board at legal proceedings in Courts of Law and Tribunals and attend to complaints instituted against the Board to safeguard its interests.
- Maintain a database of cases and complaints against the Board for ease of reference and follow up.
- Monitor the progress of legal transactions to ensure that appropriate actions are taken at the right time
- Maintain strategic linkages with key stakeholders such as office of the Solicitor General and the legal fraternity for ease of consultations.
- Carryout necessary research required to provide legal guidance to the Board.
- Draft instructions to the Board legal Counsel as may be necessary.
- Perform any other related duties as will be assigned from time to time by the supervisor.
- Legally compliant Board policies and procedures
- Legally insulated agreements and Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) and other legal documents.
- Effective legal representation in Courts of Law and Tribunals.
- A comprehensive database of cases and complaints against the Board.
- Prompt legal advice and or measures.
- An effective consultative network with the legal fraternity
(i) Required Academic/Professional Qualifications
- Honours Bachelors Degree in Laws.
- Master's Degree in Law is an added advantage
- Postgraduate diploma in legal practice
- Enrolled Advocate of the High Court with a valid practicing certificate.
- Registered member of the Uganda Law Society.
- At least six (6) years of working experience as a Legal Officer offering legal services in the public sector or reputable organization(s) in the private sector.
- Legal research, investigative and analytical skills.
- Good Computer skills in Word Processing, Spreadsheets and Presentation application.
- Excellent interpersonal, report writing and presentation skills.
Eligible candidates shall be 35 to 45 years old
Terms of service: Permanent terms of service.
