Job Summary
The ICT Manager is responsible for translating client and business needs into ICT tools and solutions that improve the client journey (by enabling staff) and take away barriers to manage & control the business. The manager ensures Innovative ICT solutions are developed and implemented through an in-house ICT team or external providers. The ICT team is part of SolarNow’s R&D team and has as such a broad mandate to pro-actively identify opportunities.
Key Responsibilities
Business software and intelligence: Analyse business needs and define requirements for improved functionality of the ERP system. Supervise the (outsourced) development and deployment of new features. Develop routine or incidental reports and reporting tools that assist with the management of the operations and strategic decision making. The team is also responsible for general system administration of the back-office team.
Infrastructure: Ensure the physical and software infrastructure keeps up with the needs of the business. Come-up with new solutions and outsource where possible.
Research and Development: The ICT team researches and develops innovative ICT technology that improve control, efficiency and client satisfaction, e.g. development and deployment of mobile interfaces or support ICT product development.
Management and Training: Day to day team management and weekly, monthly and quarterly planning & reporting. Sourcing and vetting of suppliers and temporary resources. Train and coach junior ICT professionals in the team and develop relevant ICT trainings for the rest of the organisation.
Requirements
Education: Bachelors (or equivalent) in Business IT or other relevant field Experience:

  • >5 years of work experience in managing innovative ICT environments and teams.
  • Proven track record in managing the implementation of business software.
Skills

  • Experience with open source software in professional environments.
  • Knowledge of ERP systems, in particular Odoo.
  • Knowledge of deploying and managing networks of 50+ computers.
About the manager
The ICT manager develops a deep understanding of the business, and translates the (constantly changing) needs of the business into effective and cost-efficient ICT solutions, thereby displaying a high level of care for its internal clients. He/she is a team-player with eye for detail, taking an analytical approach to solving problems, and comes with innovative ideas. The manager is able to adapt to change while managing multiple assignments. The manager has a broad understanding of applied business ICT and comes with an already well established network in the sector.
About SolarNow’s ICT infrastructure
SolarNow aims to leverage existing and proven technology and apply it in innovative and new ways. Where possible open source solutions are used to keep costs low and avoid getting locked-in. Operations are supported by a state-of -the-art back-office system. SolarNow manages several servers in-house (e.g. ERP system & PBX). HQ has around 60 work stations and each branch has 1 work station (mostly running Ubuntu). Plans for roll-out of off-line mobile applications are in advanced stage.
About SolarNow
SolarNow is a distribution and finance company that sells high quality solar product and appliances to households and businesses in Uganda. The company started in 2011 and has since opened 36 branches throughout Uganda, employs around 250 people. Expansion into other countries is planned for 2016.
Conditions
SolarNow offers industry standard remuneration and other benefits (health insurance, lunch, etc.). The place of work is at SolarNow’s headquarters in Kampala (Uganda) but will require regular travel within and outside of Uganda.

Job Summary
The ICT Manager is responsible and accountable for the smooth running of Solarnow’s computer systems in Uganda within the limits of requirements, specifications, costs and timelines. You will supervise the implementation and maintenance of solarnow’s computing needs.
Reporting
The ICT Manager reports to the Operations Manager and will work collaboratively with other desk managers.
Key Responsibilities
  • Planning-Plan, direct, coordinate, and review the work plan for ICT staff; assign work activities, projects, and programs; review and evaluate work products, methods, and procedures; meet with staff to identify and resolve problems.
  • ICT Infrastructure-Manage and provide the deployment, monitoring, maintenance and support of all ICT systems, PC’s, operating systems, hardware, software, and telecommunication systems
  • Problem Solving-Respond to the needs and questions of computer users concerning their access to resources on the network, stand-alone personal computers, or attached devices; assist in problems relating to various software programs as necessary.
  • Communication-Serve as the liaison for ICT with other departments, and gives timely updates by keeping the institution informed of any challenges experienced with the systems.
  • Quality service: ICT & company’s SLAs must be warranty.
  • Training: Laising with training desk to organise and execute ICT trainings Should oversee the training and impact of the first line response team in the branches and HQ.
Requirements
Education: Bachelors in Computer Science, IT or Similar field.
Experience:
  • At least 3 years of proven work experience with applications packages like Linux Scripting, Odoo, Zabbix, OTRS, WPS
  • Proven track record in managing teams and working in complex environments with various stakeholders.
  • Monitoring large systems in distributed environment.

  • Great IT skills combined with a good head for business.
  • Ability to explain complex systems in simple terms.
  • Problem solving, communication/listening skills.

About the ICT Manager
The ICT manager is responsible for the administration and implementation of the Management Information System while auditing and development is done by the ICT development team. He/She will provide leadership to ICT operations and infrastructure ensuring that an appropriate technical support framework is in place, including the management and delivery of service support and service delivery. He/She will work closely with other departments to identify, recommend, implement, and support cost-effective technology solutions. As well as these responsibilities, the ICT manager will define and implement ICT policies, procedures, and best practices.
